Nearly 600 people have signed a petition for a trim trail to be installed in Beddington Park.

It is set to be discussed by councillors at a Sutton Council meeting on Tuesday.

The petition called 'support our campaign to have a fitness course installed on Beddington Park’ was started on Change.org and has been submitted to the council by Karen Savage and Tracey Lloyd.

A presentation by the pair, which has been uploaded to the council website, states that initial quotes estimate the trail would cost £15,000 to install but adds they are exploring ‘additional sources of funding’.

The presentation states: “We would work with the council and Friends of Beddington Park to ensure that the trail is entirely in-keeping with the style of the park and will not be an eyesore.

“They would be made of play-grade timber with a lifespan of around 10-15 years.”

It adds that is should be located near a path and would be aimed at adults as a ‘free resource for the community’.

A report set to be considered by the Beddington and Wallington Local Committee states that there are a number of issues to be noted, including that there is already fitness equipment in the Wallington park.

It states: “Beddington Park is the most highly used park in the Borough, with a large number of stakeholder users.

“Therefore, we need to ensure that consultation for the installation of any equipment is undertaken and has reached as wider audience as possible.”

The committee is recommended to investigate whether installing the fitness trail is feasible.

The Beddington and Wallington Local Committee will meet at Wallington County Grammar School from 7pm on Tuesday, July 17.
