This is the shocking moment a 19-year-old drove his vehicle at an officer during a police chase in the early hours of the morning.

Dramatic footage released by Surrey Police today (July 13) shows Sergeant Chris Schultze, of the force’s Area Patrol Team, being knocked over near a barrier.

Officers boxed in the vehicle, on the A22 Godstone Bypass, using a tactical manoeuvre as it swerved into one of the police cars.

But after Sergeant Schultze rushed to the passenger’s side to try and arrest the motorist, the car was driven forward into him.

He was later treated at hospital for his injuries before being discharged and returning to duty, while three other officers were also hurt.

Ramone Kidd, of Prince of Wales Road, was one of three people in the vehicle arrested for various offences – including burglary, failure to stop, and theft of a motor vehicle.

Meanwhile, the other two have been released under investigation by police while enquiries continue, a Surrey Police spokesman said.

The pursuit, on June 13, started after the allegedly stolen vehicle was linked with a burglary by investigators eight days before.

Kidd appeared at Guildford Crown Court on July 12 and pleaded guilty to ABH, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

He was sentenced to 23 months in prison and has now had his license disqualified for three years.

Detective Sergeant Kerry Akehurst, from Surrey Police’s Criminal Investigation Department, said: “I would firstly like to echo what His Honour Judge Moss said around the professionalism of the officers involved in the incident.

“The role of a police officer is to protect the public, and each day officers put their lives at risk to apprehend suspects and protect the public.

“During this particular incident, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, and in doing so, three officers received injuries and four police vehicles sustained damage.”
