Residents in Epsom and Sutton have reported smelling burning plastic after a fire broke out miles away at a waste recycling centre in Hounslow.
Around 60 firefighters were called to the blaze at Transport Avenue, in Brentford, at around 10.15pm on August 3.
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said roughly 1,000 tonnes of mixed household waste was burned.
People living in areas nearby were warned to keep their windows shut as a precaution due to a “low level” plume of smoke being produced by the fire.

In a Facebook post on August 4, the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are aware of a smell of burning plastic in the area around Epsom and Worcester Park last night and this morning.
“We believe this is a smoke plume caused by an incident that the London Fire Brigade are attending in Brentford.
“Whilst it’s not a pleasant smell, there is no risk to the public.”

Crews from Chiswick, Heston, and Richmond tackled the blaze until shortly after 7am the following day.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, the London Fire Brigade spokesman added.
