A funeral for a traveller who was killed in a horse-and-cart crash in Thamesmead is due to be held in Epsom next week.

Mikey Connors was fatally injured when he was hit by a car in Eastern Way (A206) on July 28.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident but the 30-year-old was pronounced dead.

The horse was seriously injured and later put down by a vet.

Mr Connors was the nephew of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty, who rose to fame in the Channel 4 TV show which followed members of the travelling community.

Heartfelt tributes were paid to the father on social media, with one calling him “the pride of the family”.

Meanwhile, a number of unauthorised encampments by travellers have been reported in several south London boroughs over past few weeks.

Bromley, Croydon, Kingston, Richmond and Sutton, as well as the Surrey district boroughs of Epsom and Ewell and Elmbridge, have all been affected.

This has led to some councils gaining powers to ban incursions across their parks and land in a bid to prevent travellers staying.

An Epsom and Ewell Borough Council spokesman confirmed the funeral was taking place at Epsom Cemetery on August 21.

It has been rumoured the traveller encampments spotted – both on public and private land – in recent weeks are connected to the funeral.
