The deputy leader of Croydon Council is to join Croydon Green Party members on a cycle ride around the borough this Friday.

Councillor Dudley Mead will meet with representatives from the group for the ride aimed at highlighting the dangers cyclists endure on the roads.

Shasha Khan, spokesperson for the Croydon Green Party, said: "As a cyclist, I find some of the junctions in Croydon terrifying. I am just pleased that we have the opportunity to impress on the council the need to improve the current cycling facilities.

"Cycling has so many positive benefits, on health, pollution and congestion, yet previously labour and now the conservative council are failing to put in place the high quality cycle routes that will encourage people to use this greener mode of transport."

The invite for the ride was originally made out to leader of the council councillor Mike Fisher, but he declined and instead suggested Coun Mead took up the offer, saying: "Councillor Mead is the cyclist among us and he was more than happy to do the ride. I haven't been on a bike in a few years so it made sense for him to do it."
