Sutton is missing out on wedding services because couples are flocking to other boroughs where there are more venues serving booze.
"We only have one licenced venue so we do lose out to Surrey and London who've got lots. We have the Holiday Inn and we are working on finding another one as we are hoping this will attract more people in," said Marion Vidler chief superintendent registrar at Sutton Register Office.
"People do want to get married at the office as they like the office and the staff," she added.
Mrs Vidler also told the council's executive that the office will begin to open on Saturday mornings so those working during the week will find it easier to visit.
