Gary Smith's impressive form in the Bees midfield may have more to do with his team-mates than most people think.
The 24-year-old former MK Dons was Brentford's star man in Saturday's draw with Bradford City, setting up Glenn Poole for the opening goal.
Smith's stint in the team since Andy Scott took over as manager from Terry Butcher in December coincided with a run of form that helped the club stave off the threat of relegation from the Football League.
And Poole thinks Smith's move south has worked out for the best for more reasons than one.
"I think he was a bit unfortunate not to get in the team before Andy took over, but he was travelling from North-ampton at the time and it was killing him," he said.
"He now lives in the same block of flats as me and a few of the other lads near Heath-row. We all get on well and things have taken off for him. He has been superb.
"One thing I have noticed is that I don't seem to see as much of the ball when he doesn't play, so the move seems to have worked out for the best for everyone."
