New leads in Simpson murder

A Crimewatch appeal over the stabbing murder of at Matalan store manager has attracted 35 calls and given police 18 suspects to chase.

In the programme broadcast last night, the mother of Herne Hill shop manager Jamie Simpson appealed for information about the stabbing death of her son.

Mr Simpson, 33 from Herne Hill, was fatally stabbed as he cashed up the Matalan store shop in Kingsland Shopping Centre in Hackney on March 22.

After the show last night, 35 people called in, naming 18 people for police to follow up.

Two callers passed on the same name and there have been three possible sightings of the Ford Fiesta car connected to the case.

Speaking ahead of the programme, Detective Inspector Jacqueline Sebire said: "It is now more than four weeks since Jamie's death, and we still, more than ever need the help of the public in identifying those people responsible for his murder.

"We now know that four males aged between approximately 16 to 25 years of age were involved in the attack.

"Four of these men entered the Kingsland Shopping Centre but only three entered the Matalan premises.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call the incident room on 020 8345 1585 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Six people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing but all have been released on police bail.
