A popular pub in Twickenham has been named the best city pub at a prestigious national pub awards.

The Turk’s Head in Twickenham was named Best City/Urban Pub at this year’s Great British Pub Awards.

It was up against five other pubs shortlisted for the award, including the King’s Arms in Bexleyheath who were crowned this year’s winner in Best Pub for Entertainment.

The Great British Pub Awards brings together the UK’s leading and most popular pubs that enter to win one of the highly coveted awards.

Pubs are invited to enter before they are shortlisted, visited by a judge and finally interviewed before the final winners are revealed.

This year the awards announced a finalist line-up of 97 pubs entered to win across 18 different award categories from Best Pub for Dogs to Best Pub Garden.

This year’s awards saw a “record number” of entries from across the UK before the list of finalists were revealed.

Finalists from up and down the country travelled to Manchester for the award ceremony, held at the O₂ Victoria Warehouse in Old Trafford and hosted by Edith Bowman.

2The pub offers a range of dishes, from pub lunches to fine dining experiences at its Dovecote restaurant, with food made using seasonal produce.

It also stocks a range of drinks including seasonal ale, cider, spirits, exclusive wines and craft lager.

The pub has a calendar of regular and seasonal events from live sport screenings to Sunday Soul Sessions on the last Sunday of every month.

There are also weekly entertainment acts including the Bearcat Comedy Club, hosting comedy acts every Saturday, as well as a Pub Choir every Thursday on a fortnight.

Pub goers can also test their knowledge with a Pub Quiz held every Tuesday at 8pm with Quizmaster James.

For those with children the pub also offers a weekly “Kids’ Table” every Sunday between 12pm-4pm, with a range of games, crafts and entertainment for children whilst the parents can relax.
