With 2023 coming to an end, we are looking back on the businesses that closed down this year in Sutton.

Sadly, there are places that you may have seen this year but won’t see in 2024 in Sutton.

We have made a list of three of businesses that we lost from Sutton in 2023.

Wilko

In 2023, Wilko went bust after the chain ran out of money and time to solve its challenges.

The Sutton store, which was located on 78-82 High Street, closed its doors for the after serving its final customers.

The staff received cheers and applause from shoppers on its closing day as they raised a glass of champagne.

The Sutton Wilko had been on the High Street for almost twenty years.

It closed for good on September 26.

Empire Cinemas

Empire Cinemas went into administration in 2023 after the company was badly affected by the pandemic.

The company closed several of its cinemas in July across the country whilst the one in Sutton, at St Nicholas Centre, remained open.

However, Omniplex Cinema acquired the site, closing down Empire Cinemas and rebranding it completely.

It officially closed on December 8.

Chopstix Noodle Bar

According to Google, Chopstix Noodle Bar is permanently closed.

The Chinese restaurant, which stood on Sutton High Street, caught fire earlier this year on April 4.

70 firefighters were called to the scene to tackle the fire.

It's not confirmed whether or not the fire is the reason the restaurant closed down.
