The Croydon Guardian scooped a bronze award last night at the British newspaper 'Oscars'.
Against stiff competition from dozens of other titles the newspaper was shortlisted in the best free newspaper category for the South East and Greater London.
At the Marriott Hotel in Leeds on Thursday night the newspaper won the bronze award from the Newspaper Society in that category.
Group Editor, Sean Duggan, said the award was a tribute to the commitment and professionalism of the whole team - sports and leisure, sub editors and Assistant Editor Matthew Knowles and his news team.
He said: "I am delighted that their hard work has been recognised.
"Every week they produce a newspaper which is packed with great news, features, leisure and sport.
"The team regularly break exclusives which are picked up by the nationals, but they are also focused on championing the causes close to the heart of the people of Croydon.
"The borough is fortunate to have such a dedicated team of journalists and such a great weekly newspaper."
