As a child how much sport did you do? Even having the privilege to play football in the street is difficult now. Many parents struggle to afford some clubs and some don’t have the time to take children to clubs. Unfortunately many do not know about the sporting facilities that are available. Within Sutton there are four leisure centres, offering a wide range of sporting opportunities. A booklet is available giving all types of information including prices, parking, address, and a map. It’s available in 13 different languages. But the activities are not only for children they are for women, men, adults of all ages, senior citizens and the disabled. Off-peak most activities cost less than £5. Affordable for many, and good value for money.

Tia, aged 10, who does Karate, said “I love karate; I go because it keeps me fit and I meet lots of friends.”

One of the more popular activities is swimming. Undoubtedly, the school holiday is one of the busiest times. With excellent facilities and equipment it is a shame that so many do not know about all the opportunities available. Such as karate, badminton, trampolining, basketball, swimming, toddlers world, athletics and many more. As a community we have many open areas and parks where all ages can play for free. Not to forget the running tracks and outdoor tennis courts.

So don’t miss out, sport is alive and a part of all of us. Go outside (or even inside) and be active. Have fun and get fit. For information pick up a booklet entitled “Activity, programme and price information”, in any Sutton leisure centre, or look in the local phonebook.
