Animal charities are pleading to people everywhere to stop being a litter bug because litter harms animals almost everyday!

On Tuesday 4th November, a seal got tangled up in a discarded fishing line and the RSPCA and some firemen were called out to rescue it.

I bet you never knew, but litter can destroy lots of animals.

My aunt has a dog, and once he got a piece of glass stuck in his paw. That glass would have never of been there if it had not been thrown there.

Here are some things that are dangerous to animals: Fishing lines can strangle; Plastic can holders can choke; Fishing hooks can can stuck inside animals; Balloons can kill if eaten; Hedgehogs can get their heads trapped in yoghurt cartons, tin cans and cups and they can not reverse out of them because of their prickles; Floating plastic bags may look nice to marine birds but if they are swallowed or the birds get stuck in it, then they suffocate and die; Broken glass can cut the feet of animals and voles and mice climb into them then can not climb up the slippery side to get out; Lizards crawl inside bottles or cans to keep warm, then they get stuck and die of overheating.

Your litter may still end up in an open tip, so be very careful when you throw anything dangerous away, recycle as much litter as possible and try to avoid buying anything with unnecessary packaging.
