A man is recovering in hospital following a shooting in Tooting last night.

Police were called to Aboyne Road, off Garratt Lane, at 7.30pm to reports of shots being fired.

A 25-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to an unnamed London hospital, where he is making a recovery.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We were called at 7.30ppm to reports of shots fired.

"Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene where a 25-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound and taken to a hospital in London.

"He is in a stable condition."

Officers cordoned off part of Aboyne Road last night while detectives searched for evidence.

Witnesses also said officers cordoned off part of nearby Maskell Road soon after the incident, although this has not been confirmed by the Metropolitan Police.

At about 10.30pm last night a police vehicle carrier was at the scene as officers continued their search for clues.

The motive behind the shooting is unclear at this stage.

A spokesman for LAS added: "We were called just after 7.35pm last night to reports of an incident off Garratt Lane."
