Wycombe Wallop Wimbledon AFC Wimbledon were hoping to pull off a major surprise in their FA cup debut. However Wycombe Wanderers Matt Harold’s hat – trick saw off the debutants comfortably at Kingsmeadow.
With the match being telecasted live on Setanta Sports the home side were hoping to make a big impression. However the Dons did not get off to a good start as mistakes in the defence provided Matt Harold with an easy goal. He coolly slotted past Wimbledon’s goalkeeper Andy Little. Then some scrappy football took place with both sides losing the ball time after time. But in the 36th minute Harold rounded Little and finished to double the Wanderers lead. This proved to be the key goal. Just before half-time Wycombe and Matt Harold were denied their third as Andy Little pulled off a magnificent save that denied Harold.
The second half was a turn around as Wimbledon started moving the ball about and passing quickly. There efforts were rewarded when Sam Hatton scrambled in a Matt Davies cross in the 56th minute. But this proved only to be a consolation as a Matt Philips goal sealed it. Furthermore, to provide the icing on the cake Matt Harold completed his fantastic hat-trick with a clinical finished.
AFC Wimbledon could not pull off a major shock this year but maybe next year.
