Whilst snow may be lacking in our beloved London town, there is definitely a buzz of excitement settling on the ground as we leave November behind and prepare for another advent. Whether you’re a film buff, a theatre fanatic or just looking for a cosy place to shop, boredom certainly won’t crush your Christmas cheer this year.

Showing in most cinemas currently is the Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughan jolly comedy,’ Four Christmases’ featuring a crazy holiday as the duo hilariously attempt to split the celebration into four separate family occasions. A jovial 80 minutes with plenty of cause to “ho ho ho”.

If you have an appetite for dazzling theatre lights over turkey, hitting the stage this month are an array of productions and pantomimes such as ‘Snowman’, ‘The Nutcracker’, ‘Cinderella’ at the New Wimbledon Theatre and ‘The Snow Queen’ at the New Wimbledon Studio. Shopaholics won’t be left out of pocket at the Portobello Winter Wonderland, Old Spitalfields market and Wimbledon Christmas Craft Market all open to the public across the month and all packed with Crimbo bargains ready to be snapped up.

The arty community are no exception in the festivities as the Tate Britain launch their recycled Christmas Tree. In collaboration with Electric Pedals, Bob and Roberta Smith have chosen to create the tree with recycled timber, lamps and bicycles. Visitors are invited to get involved in this inventive and celebratory art (find out how on Friday 5 December).

Slide into the season on a glittering London ice rink, whether at Somerset House, Alexandra Palace, The Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace or the Natural History Museum, maybe even delve into the musical world at The Sect Christmas club night (Catch 22 club, December 4th), The Watershed ‘Xmas Foam Party’ (The Watershed, Wimbledon, December 21st) and Underage Christmas festival (Scala club, 20th December).

For a real yuletide extraordinaire, enjoy a combination of the lot at the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland with craft stalls, ice-skating, fake snow, art, carols and funfair rides.

All in all, with London in such a cheery buzz, there really is no reason to shout “Humbug” this year.
