A thief riding a BMX bike punched his teenage victim in the head before stealing his mobile phone.
The rider, who was accompanied by a white dog believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, attacked the youth on Wednesday, May 6, at 10.50pm.
The 17-year-old victim had been followed by the suspect for about 10 to 15 minutes as he walked home from Mill Green, Mitcham, to Peterborough Road, Carshalton.
When he turned into adjoining Middleton Road the suspect caught up with his victim, demanded his mobile phone and punched him in the head a number of times.
The victim, who suffered bruising and a bleeding nose, ran off and hid in a garden in Peterborough Road until he was sure the attacker had left the scene.
A police spokesman said the man was riding a green BMX bike and was accompanied by a white dog running behind him.
He said: “He is described as a mixed race male, of athletic build, with a goatee beard.
He was wearing a grey hooded top with the top over his head.
