An amateur cyclist raised over £2,000 for the disabled by cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats.
Elaine Briggs, who runs a store for University College London, made the 1,027 mile trip in aid of the Epsom Riding for the Disabled Association.
Miss Briggs, 36, has volunteered with the association since she was 13 years old.
She said: “It started off as a joke. One of us was doing London to Paris last year and a group of us thought we’d do something even more adventurous and cycle the length of the country. I ended up being the only one who followed through.”
Stella Milne, chairwoman of the association, said she was “astounded” at Miss Briggs’ achievement. She said: “She’s raised so much money and managed it all on her own.”
Miss Briggs said the trip was less painful than expected and gave her the chance to see some beautiful scenery. She said: “The best bits were probably Scotland, where you get to go around the mountains, and the Yorkshire Dales. There were some really great views.”
Currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, the association offers riding facilities to 350 disabled people. It costs £30,000 a year to run and has no paid staff.
