A Samaritan is looking forward to “becoming part of social history” when she tops the Fourth Plinth next month.

Lucia Capobianco, who works as a PA for the Samaritans in Ewell, found out she had won a slot on the Trafalgar Square plinth on August 17 last week.

Miss Capobianco, of The Wells, said she would be raising awareness for the charity.

She said: “The Samaritans are amazing. The volunteers and the whole ethos, that people can ring and speak to someone in their darkest hour and express things they may never have expressed before.”

The 35-year-old has not yet decided what she will do, though she said there were “lots” of possibilities. “I might play an interactive game with the crowds, I might hand things out like stress balls and lollipops, I might do something else.”

Miss Capobianco said she was “a little nervous” about the height of the plinth, however.

She added: “I'm not aiming to launch myself off so I should be OK. I just hope it's not windy.”
