Water costs will be cut under draft proposals announced by a watchdog.
The result of Ofwat’s scrutiny of Sutton and East Surrey Water‘s business plans for 2010 to 2015 is a proposed reduction in the average bill for household customers receiving their water services from the company.
By 2015, the company's average water bill is set to fall by around £13 or eight per cent to £152, before inflation is considered.
Regina Finn, Ofwat chief executive officer said: "We understand times are hard, and we have listened to what customers have told us.
They want safe, reliable water supplies at a reasonable cost.
"Our decisions will keep bills down, while allowing Sutton & East Surrey to invest almost £80 million. Customers will see real benefits as a result.
“In an area of serious water stress, the company is proposing to install around 32,000 meters over the next five years.
"People will only pay for the water they use and meters can help reduce water wastage."
The company, customers and interested parties now have the opportunity have their say on Ofwat's proposals. The final proposal on prices companies can charge will be published in November.
New bills will then come into effect in April 2010.
