An opera and drama society has chosen the Operation Butterfly to receive the proceeds from their annual fundraiser.
The Wallington Operatic and Dramatic Society are staging Wallop, The Musical, until Saturday at the Wallington Public Hall, and will donate the funds raised at their Friday raffle to help build a Butterfly Room at St Helier hospital.
Stephen Leitch, from the Society, said: “There are a number of reasons why we chose the Operation Butterfly.
"I suppose we decided we wanted to support a local charity because cancer affects most families, it has affected my family and other families in the Society, and because the hospital is in our catchment area as our members are from Wallington, Carshalton and Sutton.”
The room will be an information and support centre for cancer patients and their carers.
The Butterfly Room will cost an estimated £50,000 and will be based in the outpatient area of the hospital.
Staff and volunteers at the existing Macmillan Butterfly Centre at Epsom Hospital have already raised £30,000.
A further £10,000 towards the project has been generously donated by Carshalton Beeches Rotary Club from the proceeds of its Music in the Park concert earlier this year.
With your help, the Sutton Guardian’s Operation Butterfly is looking to find the rest of the funds needed to make this project a reality.
