Sutton Council is clamping down on cyber bullying with a week of activities for children.
The aim is to raise awareness of bullying on the internet and by mobile phone as national research suggests about a third of 12 to 15-year-olds have been victims of cyber bullying.
Executive member for libraries Councillor Graham Tope said: “The rise of the internet and mobile phones in recent years has sadly opened up a new way for bullies to target their victims, even from a distance.
“While the council and schools work hard to stamp out bullying and take action against the culprits, it is important victims also know where to go for help.”
Sutton libraries are running a competition for children to design a mouse mat on the theme of cyber bullying.
The winning entry will be used on all children’s computers in the borough’s libraries.
The closing date for the competition is Saturday, December 5.
