Three-year-old Callum Fraser proudly clutches his passport oblivious to the confusion over his identity.
Callum's mum Ceri applied for a passport in his name so he could go on holiday with his grandparents in June.
But she was a little surprised when a courier arrived at the family's home in Warren Road, Addsicombe, last Friday and asked to see Mr C Fraser.
Ceri said Callum was not at home and was then asked to produce a letter in his name as proof of identity.
She said: "I know why these checks are in place but this was just ridiculous.
"I explained that Callum was a three-year-old boy and he doesn't get post. Luckily I had a letter from the passport office saying his passport had been held up because I had made a mistake with the form."
