Reigate and Redhill 19
Old Walcountians 17

Old Walcountians ended the 2003-04 season with a narrow defeat against Reigate and Redhill, who narrowly missed out on promotion.

With better luck, Walcountians might have won this close encounter as flanker Adam Dring had a try disallowed in the first five minutes and his older brother Gary Dring, was off target with two second half penalties.

Reigate took an 11th-minute lead when their full-back left the Walcountians' defence for dead and scored an unconverted try.

But six minutes later, the Old Boys were level when Bill Fuller bulldozed his way over for a try after picking the ball up from a ruck close to the Reigate line.

Walcountians looked like going in level at half-time when slack defence allowed the Reigate loose-head prop to charge over for a converted try.

Walcountians closed the gap to two points 10 minutes into the second half when the massive Fuller scored his seventh try in five appearances. But Walcountians were undone when Reigate's outside-centre scored a try from a three-quarter move started from a controversial tap penalty.

Walcountians were awarded a penalty try one minute from time, which was a just reward for their efforts. But overall the club will be disappointed that their promotion challenge evaporated in the second half of the season.
