Old Whitgiftians 12
Old Cranleighans 30

A season that began strongly ended in disappointment as the Old Whitgiftians suffered their third consecutive defeat against the Cranleighans at Thames Ditton on Saturday.

The result was hardly surprising as the Whitgiftians took the field with only five players who were in the team earlier in the year, due to a dispute over selection policy.

The game was scrappy, partly due to a hard ground and a stiff wind which caused the ball to bounce capriciously. The Cranleighans dominated line-outs and scrums but their margin of victory was due to their two fast wings who outpaced OWs and who scored three of the OCs' five tries.

The OWs defended well and deserved their two tries, scored by Dempsey and Brown the first converted by Kiddell.

Moffatt and Dougan tackled courageously all afternoon and the whole team never gave up.

The Whitgiftians finished well in the top half of the table but will need to sort out their internal problems before the start of the next season. They have the players to challenge for the league title.
