Shoppers in Croydon could mistake North End for Budapest at the end of April, when it becomes the first UK street to host a genuine Hungarian market.
From Thursday, April 29, for a week, Hungarian market traders will set up 20 stalls outside the Almhouses in North End, to coincide with Hungary's entry into the European Union.
The stalls will sell hand-crafted Hungarian goods from wooden puppets and ceramics, to jewellery and leather goods.
Town centre manager Tony Hart said: "It will be a chance for our shoppers to compare a traditional east European market with our very own Surrey Street."
Surrey Street traders need not fear the competition, because there will be no food on sale at the market, but if it is successful the event could become a regular feature.
