Set in 350 acres of beautiful green belt land, Farleigh Court proves that it is much more than just a golf club.
Leaving the noise of town far behind for lunch, it amazed me that such a tranquil oasis was just up the road from bustling Selsdon and South Croydon. It's a secret that needs to be told, Farleigh Court Golf Club has a brilliant restaurant folks.
With dazzling, spring sunshine streaming into the dining area the venue looked very elegant. The bar had a chalkboard of snacks listed, and for a moment my heart sunk, but settled at a window table laid with crisp white linen, the menu for the restaurant was really enticing.
And I discovered an even bigger secret the prices are easy on the pocket too.
The menu has traditional favourites but head chef David Pryce has a free hand with his creative urges at Farleigh Court. Talking to Debbie Nicholls, sales and marketing manager, I learned that she is often used as his gourmet guinea pig.
One such creation was a delicious starter comprising leek and mozzarella risotto shaped into a patty and deep fried, served with a sweet chilli chutney.
Main courses included a fabulous chicken breast fillet wrapped in Parma ham and a light cheese coating, cooked to perfection the meat remained moist and tender.
The grilled swordfish was simply prepared. It was an excellent cut of quality seafood enhanced with a serving of cous cous.
Desserts offered were a chocolate torte, fresh fruit salad (great, not too many apple slices) and a hot concoction of a light sponge topped with apple and blackberries that had a crunchy crumble thin layer on top. Served with fresh vanilla custard it was delicious.
