A 16-year-old girl is hoping police appeals will help find a man who sexually assaulted her near Croydon fire station last Thursday.
The schoolgirl was making her way home when she was approached by the man, described as black with shoulder length dreadlocks who spoke with a “soft” London accent.
He asked the teenager for the time and directions before grabbing her arm and pushing her to the floor where he sexually assaulted her.
A man who saw what was happening as he rounded the corner, yelled at the attacker who ran off in the direction of Duppas Hill.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
A spokeswoman said: “I can confirm police are investigating an allegation of sexual assault that occurred on October 14 at 3.35pm in the underpass near Old Town.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Croydon CID on 020 8649 0258. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
