Jimmy Cooper has played down the hype ahead of the Metropolitan Police’s big FA Cup day by insisting the league is their prime focus this season.

The Met travel to Hendon at the weekend with a First Round Proper spot up for grabs, a stage the Blues have not reached since 1993.

But with the Police sat second in the Ryman Division One South, Cooper admits their is only one goal on his mind.

He said: “In all honesty this cup game is nowhere near as important as our next league game.

“With cup games we have not played a league game for three weeks now and we have four games in hand on Leatherhead.

“Obviously we want to win and if we make the first round it will be a big deal for this club, but our target this season is to get promoted and we must remember that.”

The Blues will head to their Ryman Premier opponents buoyed by the fact that they have already knocked off Premier rivals in the shape of Wealdstone in the last qualifying round.

And the Met boss vows his side will go looking to win the game.

Cooper added: “We have to fancy our chances.

“We are having a great season, we are playing well and we are scoring goals.

“We know we can win on the road at sides from a higher level and we have to go and do it again.

“We will go there with a lot of confidence and rightly so.

“If we win it will be fantastic and will put us on the map, and if we lose we get back to winning the league so we really have nothing to lose.”

Met Police’s next three games: Oct 23 Hendon (FAC, a), 27 Sittingbourne (h), 30 Chatham Town (h)
