BBC sports broadcaster John Inverdale was among the guests at Burhill Golf Club in Hersham on Friday, September 25, where almost £40,000 was raised Cancer Researcher UK.

Golfers played 18 holes on the old course for the Burhill Golf Classic and afterwards enjoyed a dinner and auction hosted by rugby legend Martin Bayfield, who entertained guests with anecdotes from this sporting career.

Pam Cryer , event organizer, said: "We are delighted to have raised another magnificent sum towards the fight on cancer thanks to the support of so many companies.

"Cancer Research UK supports over 180 clinical trials across UK and last year spent over £42 million on cancer trials and related studies, many of which take place in Surrey.

"The Burhill Golf Classic is a great opportunity for companies to entertain clients, as well as contribute to a vitally worthwhile cause.

"We welcome new teams and next year is a perfect time to join us as we will celebrate raising over a quarter of a million pounds since the event began."

Auction prizes donated this year included a week in a luxury private villa in Barbados, tickets to the Ryder Cup and Wimbledon and a holiday in Portugal.
