Croydon Police recovered more than £6,000 in stolen goods after dawn raids across the borough this morning.

More than 30 officers from Croydon's Burglary Squad, supported by the Territorial Support Group (TSG) hit seven addresses simultaneously.

The raids uncovered an Aladdin's cave of sat navs, mobile phones, TVs, stereos class A drugs and 90 cases of stolen vodka.

Six suspected burglars were arrested in the raids for conspiracy to burgle and handling stolen goods.

Another man was arrested for possession of a firearm after a stun-gun was uncovered.

Operation Haberfield, part of the Metropolitan Police's Operation Bumblebee was launched after burglaries in the borough starting surging.

The borough's Area Intelligence Unit identified seven addresses linked to burglaries and launched the proactive operation this morning.

Sergeant Bob Dolce, from South Norwood Police Station said: “This is a great result for us. Croydon Police want burglars to get the message we will not tolerate any sort of crime in this borough especially theft.

“Burglaries can be one of the most harrowing things ordinary, decent people have to go through and we want the public to know when we get information, we will act on it.

“We made six arrests this morning and took a dangerous stun gun off the streets.”

Last night the Thornton Heath Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) launched one of its new night patrols in the north of the borough as part of Operation Refresh.

The team headed out from its new base in Parchmore Road to patrol around Thornton Heath, Selhurst, Broad Green and West Thornton.

The new SNT strategy means officers will be around almost 24 hours a day manning the base for both night and day patrols.

Sergeant Dan Atkins said: “It's good for the public to know that their taxes are being spent keeping them safe.

“This is a new way of working for SNTs who traditionally have been on mostly days.”

“The people of Croydon should know we are out there on the streets at all times of day and night."
