The family of Robert Daley have paid tribute to "a happy-go-lucky man who loved life", after two teenagers were today found guilty of his killing.

A 15-year-old girl from Streatham was found guilty of manslaughter and a 15-year-old Clapham boy, her sister's boyfriend, was found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey.

The two teenagers killed Mr Daley at his Brixton flat after finding out the Crown Prosecution Service had dropped a case against Mr Daley in which he was accused of sexually abusing the girl's 16-year-old sister.

The Streatham girl also alleged during her trial she was abused by Mr Daley from the age of 12.

No charge was brought against Mr Daley.

A statement released by Mr Daley's family following the killers' conviction, said: "We would like to say that his death has had a massive and traumatic effect on all of us, young and old alike.

"The Robert we knew and loved was a happy-go-lucky man who loved life. The evidence we have heard during this trial has been shocking and has caused us great pain.

"We would like to thank the police for their hard work in this case and for their support.

"Finally we would ask to be left alone to grieve. The media coverage of this case has been extremely hard for us to cope with and now we would like the opportunity to mourn our loss in peace."

Detective Chief Inspector David Manning, who led the Metropolitan Police's investigation in to Mr Daley's killing, said: “This was a complex case and provided challenges to myself and my team in untangling a number of complex relationships.

“In addition, hundreds of hours of CCTV footage were reviewed, along with mobile telephone data and Oyster Card analysis, to ensure that we could piece together and present to the court the evidence that proved the two youths killed Mr Daley.

“I would like to pay tribute to Robert’s family who have endured a very difficult time. They have been in court listening to the evidence every day and have displayed great dignity.”
