The jury in a case of a son accused of murdering his parents have retired to consider their verdict at the Old Bailey.
Daniel Dighton, stabbed his mother Elizabeth, 60, more than 20 times at the home they shared in Campden Road, South Croydon before turning on his 61-year-old father Barry.
The Old Bailey heard the 36-year-old murdered his respected teacher parents after they told him he had to get a job.
Police were called after a neighbour heard screams from the house Mr Dighton shared with his parents.
They found Barry Dighton's blood-spattered body slumped in a living room chair when they arrived several minutes later, with his wife's body lying nearby on a pool of blood.
One officer followed blood drips upstairs to find Daniel Dighton hiding in the loft smoking a cigarette, with blood stains on his jeans.
The defendant told police there had been an argument which had got out of control as he was being led from the house, the jury heard.
