Future Olympic cycling stars could saddle up for the first time at a new BMX track in Mitcham.
The track is set to be build on land adjacent to St Mark’s Academy in Acacia Road.
The track would be funded and delivered by the school, Merton Council and sports body British Cycling.
This week Merton Council said the final details of the facility, which would be created for use by the whole community, had not been agreed – but once they were it could be constructed within six weeks.
It is likely to be a “regional standard” track, meaning it would measure about 50m by 80m, be built with about 7,000 tonnes of soil and could feature electronic gates and start units.
