A welterweight boxing champion has been fined following an abusive rant at two policeman outside Sutton train station.

Jimmy Mizon, of Tadworth, was spotted by the officers acting “aggressively” towards a couple, in Brighton Road on January 30.

Following a night out in Sutton, the 21-year-old boxer then tried to physically move the woman, who was sitting on the pavement, against her will.

The court heard that Mizon was also taunting the man by telling him that his girlfriend was “trying to chat up other men”.

Having seen him harrassing the couple, the two officers tried to intervene but the Tadworth resident began swearing at both of them telling them it was “nothing to do with them”.

They asked him if the woman was his girlfriend, to which he said 'no' and started swearing and calling the officers a variety of names.

The Queensbury League British welterweight champion started getting “abusive and obnoxious”, according to witnesses, and was arrested.

Sutton magistrates told Mizon: “I see there are a couple of fairly recent convictions related to drinking.

“Is this becoming a problem? Is there anything you wanted to say in your defence?”

He said: “I’d like to apologise for wasting your time, I was stupidly drunk and had an argument with my girlfriend.

“I haven’t had a drink since it happened. I’ve got a few fights coming up and won’t be drinking.”

Mizon won his Queensbury League crown in August last year and the welterweight will make his second defence next month against Fatjon Gola at Epsom Downs Racecourse.

The boxer, who admitted the charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words, was asked to pay a fine of £166 which he must pay within three months.
