Residents have a last chance to comment on the future of libraries, as the council prepares to make £935,000 in cuts.

The debate and ideas forum on website Speak Out Sutton will close on April 23, with the council expected to make its decision on the future of the library service in the coming weeks.

Around 100 ideas have already been submitted to the site and many more comments and ratings.

Suggestions so far include introducing iPads into libraries to replace desktop PC’s; charging for the use of the computer suite; reviewing the DVD/CD hire service; making better use of volunteers and hosting children’s birthday parties.

Councillor Graham Tope, council spokesperson on libraries, said: “We want as many people as possible to take part in the debate and help us to make savings in the library service while protecting the elements they value most.”
