A community effort has completed raised flower beds on a Belmont estate.

Pensioner Danny Hurley, resident of the Shanklin Estate, built the raised beds out of leftover materials from a redevelopment of the estate.

But he did not have the soil or plants to fill them.

The Chiltern Church, near to the estate, stepped in and with support from its congregation, sourced plants and soil for the beds, which were finally completed last Saturday by volunteers.

Church minister Dave Hitchcock said: "It was a real community effort but credit really must go to Mr Hurley for everything he has done."
