A annual community festival that lost its council funding in this year’s cuts has been awarded a grant to keep it going this year.

Think in Kingston is put together by several local community groups and individuals including Kingston Philosophy Cafe, Kingston Amnesty, Action for Happiness, Kingston Peace Council and representatives of the council and university.

The month-long event, founded in 2005 and due to be held in central Kingston and New Malden this October, will be centred around the themes of happiness and wellbeing.

Last year’s event was run by the council, but this year environmental group Transition Town Kingston agreed to act as fund holders.

Former councillor Roger Hayes said: “Think in Kingston was my idea many years ago, and has grown in popularity over the years and is attracting more events and larger audiences.”

Councillors agreed to give the project £750 from its grants budget on Wednesday, May 25.

The money will be used for printing fliers to promote the event.
