Raven’s Ait is open for business again three years after its former management company went into administration.

The island in the Thames, near Surbiton, now being run by former Olympic sailing medallist Ossie Stewart, held its corporate launch on Wednesday, July 13.

The island is now taking bookings for corporate events and Christmas meals, and looking forward to its first wedding next month.

Income from the events will help fund phase two of the plans – a new watersports centre due to open in 2012.

The refurbishment will secure the future of the First Surbiton Sea Scouts Troop, which will gain changing facilities and showers for children involved in waterborne activities.

Members of the scouts piped Kingston mayor Councillor Patrick Codd onto the island at an earlier opening party held on Saturday, June 18.

The island hit the headlines in spring 2009 when eco squatters occupied the land.
