Visitor’s to the 17th annual Banstead West Music in the Park open air concert at the weekend were determined to enjoyed themselves despite the wet weather.

Hundreds braved the rain to enjoy an afternoon of music featuring Elvis impersonator, Ben Thompson, support acts Box Car Kelly and the Railroaders, the Thameside 6 Jazz Band and the Cherry Pie Choir.

Vocalist and newcomer to the event, Karen Norris, also took to the stage to perform a selection of modern and pop in a jazz style.

Chairman, Jon Reader, said: "The weather was really bad and we had some heavy rain.

"But those who stayed did really enjoy it if they were willing to put up their brollies and brave the weather, it was a great afternoon.

"It’s a very good community event and it does bring people together."

As Colin Ray and his 5-piece rat pack band took to the stage for the afternoon finale, the sun finally shone.

Mr Reader said: "He had people up in the front dancing which was absolutely great."

A fund-raising grand raffle was also held with MP for Epsom and Ewell and Patron of the park, Chris Grayling, awarding the prizes and donating a House of Commons bottle of whiskey signed by David Cameron.

Refreshments on offer included the popular hog roast, tea tent, ice creams as well as a beer and wine tent while younger children were entertained with face painting and a traditional puppet show for a small charge.

The free event, which costs up to £5,000, was sponsored by Tudor Capital, Legal & General, Toyota and Waitrose.
