Police are appealing for witnesses after a young boy was followed by two teenagers who then stole his mobile phone in Epsom.

The robbery happened at about 4pm on Saturday, July 16, as he was walking through Epsom town centre.

He noticed two boys following him at a distance and as he walked down an alleyway running across Court Recreation Ground between Pound Lane and Hazon Way, they approached him and demanded his mobile telephone.

The victim handed over his phone and both boys then ran away, one heading in the direction of Epsom Common and the other towards Hook Road.

The first boy is white, about 15, 5ft 9in, skinny with short dark hair and was wearing a red t-shirt and dark jeans.

The second boy was white, about 15, 5ft 5in tall, skinny with dark brown hair cut very short, and was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a black t-shirt.

Investigating officer Simon Evans of Epsom CID, said: "These offenders were clearly looking for someone smaller than them to target and they followed their victim until an opportunity to rob them presented itself.

"I am appealing to anyone who recognises the description of these two individuals or who was in Epsom on Saturday and thinks they saw them to contact us.

"I would also advise young people to stay vigilant and keep valuable possessions such as mobile phones and portable music devices out of sight when in public.

"If you think you are being followed or targeted stay in a public place and contact police for assistance."
