A couple tied the knot with a rock'n'roll wedding.

Tony and Lesley Coward, from Carshalton, got married with a 1950s themed wedding, complete with jive dancing, rock'n'roll band and a cadilac wedding car.

But they were clear this was not a fancy dress wedding.

Mrs Coward, 45, said: "It's not a theme, it's how we live. Tony has been a teddy boy for 30 odd years. Everything we do is 50s and rock 'n' roll related."

The couple, who dress in 1950s inspired clothes everyday, said there was no way they would ever have got married in traditional wedding dress.

Mr Coward, 50, who wears his hair constantly in a quiff, said: "It's much more who we are and what we are. We go jiving three times a week and are totally part of the jive scene."

They asked their family and friends to also come dressed in 1950s gear.

Mr Coward said: "It was great to see all the children dressed up.It was really like stepping back in time."

The bar at the reception at the Holiday Inn, Sutton, was decorated with duke boxes, pictures of Elvis and other 1950s american paraphernalia.

Mr Coward, a lorry driver, and Mrs Coward, a teaching assistant, met just 13 months ago at a rock-n-roll night in held in Carshalton.

They were back dancing there just two days after their wedding.

They were married on Friday, July 15, at Merton Register Office is the Grade II listed building Morden Park House.
