A receptionist has denied helping a man accused of shooting unarmed police officer Wayne Stevens in Croydon.

Jason Anpomah, 20, appeared in a court in Belfast today accused of assisting an offender and withholding information.

He was arrested in Belfast on Wednesday night along with a 26-year-old, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The 26-year-old has been taken to south London where he is being questioned by police.

PC Wayne Stevens had to undergo surgery after a bullet from the gun shattered his elbow when he was shot at 10pm on Friday night in Kingsdown Road following a routine patrol.

PC Stevens is still recovering in hospital and is in a stable condition.

Mr Anpomah did not apply for bail.

He was remanded in custody for a week, to appear again via video-link.

Another two men, aged 21 and 22, have already been charged in connection with the incident.
