A children's charity has thanked an adventure travel company which helped it raise £685,000 for terminally ill children over the past decade.

The Rainbow Trust, based in Leatherhead, has used the money to provide hands on, emotional and practical support to families with a terminally ill child - often during the final stages of a child’s life.

Oonagh Goodman, head of fundraising at the trust, said: "We are very thankful for the continued support of Global Enduro. Donations like these go directly to pay for our family support teams in areas all over the country, including right here in South West London.

"By taking siblings out for a day we let them enjoy the often simple activities that other children their age enjoy regularly, such as visiting the playground.

"Continued fundraising is especially beneficial to us. We work with families for as long as they need it - even after the child has died."

Global Enduro Ltd is a social enterprise company who raise money for charity by providing adventure tours by motorcycle, car, jeep, husky and skidoo.

Participants pay for the tours by raising sponsorship or by self-funding the trip.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2012, Enduro is holding a 2,000km bike ride across across India’s Western Ghat Mountains which it hopes will raise £1m.

As part of the tour, entrants get to ride the classic ‘Royal Enfield Bullet’ motorcyle.

The price of the bike ride is £4,995 which includes flights, bike, accommodation (including breakfast & dinner), and a full support crew.
