By Timothy Mansfield, Beverley Way

Thank you for publishing the letter from Nigel Davies on September 13.

His remarks were most welcome to those of us in Beverley Way who are in favour of the plans by Transport for London to provide easier access to the 265 bus on both sides of Beverley Way.

For those without cars and those with mobility difficulties, the distance between stops is considerable, particularly on the southern-bound side.

Some who are residents on the northbound side have to use taxis if they wish to go to Tesco or into New Malden.

A long walk is required to the subway under the A3 and then a repeat of that distance in the opposite direction to get to the existing stop.

How can Sally Berriman, in her response to Mr Davies’ comments, think that by objecting to the scheme the protestors are ‘protecting the more vulnerable’, ‘our elderly residents and those with disabilities’!

Opposing does the opposite as the plan would make life easier for elderly residents and those with disabilities.

For Mr Raymond to object on the grounds that only one passenger entered or left 15 of the 28 buses during the time of a tape recording surely carries no weight whatsoever.

A bus provides a service even if, on occasions, it is used by one or ten people.

Mr Raymond is correct in stating that Beverley Way is a service road and not a slip road. As a service road it was not constructed as a private or public car park. The 265 is a service to the community.
