Of Kingston’s 117 decades of recorded history, that of the 1930s is uniquely interesting.
So why has it seldom been written about?
Why such a dearth of local history studies on this decade of revolutionary schemes and achievements, dizzying townscape change and the catastrophic outbreak of world war?
June Sampson will seek to capture the local mood and events of this largely neglected decade in Kingston in the 1930s, a new series beginning exclusively in the Surrey Comet out tomorrow.
