Wandsworth council is giving out grants of up to £4,000 to help budding directors produce short films.

The Short Film Fund 2011 has been set up to discover grassroots talent, stimulate local filmmaking and to help develop new skills.

It is run in partnership by Wandsworth and Kensignton and Chelsea Councils, with support from Film London and Skillset.

To qualify for funding the director, producer or writer must live, work or study in one of the two boroughs.

Films must be no longer than 12 minutes and applicants must have had no more than two films professionally distributed or exhibited.

Applicants with completed films have the chance to be shortlisted for Film London's Best of Borough Film Awards (BoB's).

Councillor Jonathan Cook, Wandsworth Council's arts and culture spokesman said: "This scheme has helped scores of local filmmakers to hone their talents and showcase their skills.

"It's a terrific opportunity and I thoroughly recommend anyone with filmmaking aspirations to put together an application."
