Darren Ambrose hopes his strike against Brighton on Tuesday could kick-start a goalscoring spree for Crystal Palace.

The winger bobbled in the second as the Eagles beat their fierce rivals 3-1 on the south coast - but it was only his second goal of the season after a stuttering start in front of goal.

But the 27-year-old, who has 29 goals in 92 appearances for Palace, hopes he can now go on a scoring run.

"I need to start popping up with a few more this season I think," he said.

"I’ve had a few chances and that’s my second goal this season, but the way I want to play that’s not enough after eight games so I’ll be looking to add a few more.

"On Tuesday, I tried to hit it first time and anything could have happened.

"It could have gone over but thankfully it took a few ricochets and once it was bobbling in the air no-one was get there in front of me and I was determined to get the goal.

"They are the best ones, derby goals like that.

"I don’t get many of them and when I do get them I enjoy them.

"Our fans were great, it was a great atmosphere out there and good to play in front of that many people and we’ve got bragging rights at the moment.

"We all knew what it meant, to go a goal down so early was frustrating, but we fought back and the fans, both sets of fans, I must say were fantastic.

" The atmosphere was brilliant and we know they are going to come to our place wanting revenge, we going to expect that.

"But we’re one nil up on games at the moment and hopefully we can go and beat them when they come to ours. "

Ambrose started on the bench against Brighton as manager Dougie Freedman preferred Wilfried Zaha and Sean Scannell on the wings and Jonathan Williams in midfield.

"Dougie made a decision and I accepted that," said Ambrose.

"It worked in the end, I came on and made a difference and I was pleased with that.

"We’ll see on Saturday what he does but everytime I play I’m going to give 110%.

"It’s up to the manager if I play or not but obviously I’m frustrated being out the team.

"These things happen though and I’m just looking forward to when I get my game time."
