A train operator has scooped an environmental award.

Southern railway was awarded for its Environmental Management System which helps manage the railways environmental impact. The railway recycles an average of 65 per cent of its waste collection from stations, trains, depots and offices.

Judith Ward, Southern’s environment manager said: “With more and more passengers becoming more aware of environmental issues, what they want to see is a reduction in our impact on the environment.

“We’ve already taken huge strides in this area and the award is testament to all of the hard work of all at Southern, not least our dedicated Environmental Champions.”
