A man has been charged with a stabbing in Wallington that has left a 43-year-old man in a coma.

Darren Jones, 43, is described as being in a critical condition but stable condition after he was stabbed three times in Stafford Road on Saturday.

It is believed Mr Jones, of Stafford Road, was stabbed following an altercation in the street.

Police believe he was stabbed with a knife, but no weapon has yet been recovered.

Wayne McClatchie, 29, of no fixed abode, was charged on Sunday, October 9, with GBH with intent.

He appeared via videolink from at Camberwell Green Magistrates this morning.

He was remanded in custody without entering a plea. His next appearance will be at Croydon Crown Court.

Police were called to Stafford Road, close to the junction with Milton Road, at about 1.40am to reports of a stabbing.

Mr Jones had been stabbed in the neck and back.

He was rushed to hospital where he has been in an induced coma since.

Police are appealing for information regarding the incident, although police are not looking for any other suspects in connection with the incident at this time.
